Installing Oracle 10g 10.2.0.2 Agents

Install Oracle Enterprise Manager 10.2.0.2 agents.

Install OEM 10.2.0.2 agents.

This document might help you install Oracle 10g agents.
Disclaimer: Apply to a TEST environment first. Use on production systems is at DBAs own risk.

OEM 10 g agents on Server name node1:
On node1 create an OS account named oma belonging to dba group which would own the 10g agent.
node1 is and HPUX. The install on other type of Unix should be very similar.

IMPORTANT: When doing this in PROD (node1), remember to set aside enough time to recreate

all current jobs and events that you currently have on OEM 9i, recreating them manually on the OEM 10.2

Go to http://www.oracle.com/technology
–> DOwnloads –>Enterprise Manager –>SECTION: Mass Agent Deployment
And click on Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Management Agents (10.2.0.2)
And download the one for your target node platform meaning HP-UX (database node)
Once you have the zip file .gz on your staging area gunzip it
After it is gunziped it would become a .cpio file, untar it as followig:
cpio -idcmv < HPUNIX_GridControl_agent_download_10_2_0_1.cpio

On the node you are doing the agent install make sure that the hosts file is correct and

properly installed with the following format:
ip host_name.domain alias
Sample:
196.162.6.38 node1.domain.com node1
and add the OMS server to the hosts file. OMS being the server where you have your GRID control running.

Then save your current /etc/oratab and then remove any entry that referes to no exixtant SIDs

(is any) and any repeating entries caused by previous rapid clone sessions.

node1:
==========
Now cd /var/opt/oracle
vi /var/opt/oracle/oraInst.loc
–>Here make sure you point it to a new orainventory location within the new home where you

would be installing
the 10.2 agents, create this new orainventory location if it does not already exist (node1:

/u11/app/oracle/product/OEM10.2/oraInventory).
On target node logon as oma:
DISPLAY=182.16.51.162:0.0
export DISPLAY
–> 182.16.51.162:0.0 is my desktop IP address (from DOS ipconfig)

Also make sure that oma OS account has the following (or similar) in its .profile:
TEMPDIR=/u12/tmp
export TEMPDIR
TEMP=/u12/tmp
export TEMP
TMP=/u12/tmp
export TMP
If you have 9i agents running on the server where you want to install 10.2 agents, then
make sure you stop the OEM 9i agents before starting the installation. (agentctl stop)

cd $TMP and remove old failed installs if any.

On your desjtop:
Start–> All Programs–> Hummingbird–> Exceed

Now logon as oma to node1:
cd /u14/stage/OMA/agent10.2
/usr/local/bin/gunzip HPUNIX_GridControl_agent_download_10_2_0_1.cpio.gz
cpio -idcmv < HPUNIX_GridControl_agent_download_10_2_0_1.cpio

cd /u14/stage/OMA/agent10.2/hpunix/agent
./runInstaller

Once OUI starts with “Additional Management Agents” checked, and prompted you for parent

directory, set it to /u11/app/oracle/product/OEM10.2
Make sure agent10g does not exist under /u11/app/oracle/product/OEM10.2

log files are loacted in the orainventory locations poited by oraInst.loc in the oui subdirectory

The installer starts but might freez, if you do not see the blue processing indicators moving

any more, you might have to kill the installation and restart it.

The installation will run for 30 minutes, it checks your system for hardware and OS patch

requirements.
If you get the following error (see Note:169706.1):
Checking for X11MotifDevKit(0.0); found Not found. Failed <<<<
Checking for X11MotifDevKit.MOTIF21-PRG(0.0); found Not found. Failed <<<<

–>As long as you have the following you may ignore these errors:
as root:
cd /usr/lib
ln -s /usr/lib/libX11.3 libX11.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXIE.2 libXIE.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXext.3 libXext.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXhp11.3 libXhp11.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXi.3 libXi.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXm.4 libXm.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXp.2 libXp.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXt.3 libXt.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXtst.2 libXtst.sl

After the prerequisite screen you get a report of what had passed and what had failed as seen

here:
For detail See file OEM 10g R2 Agents PROD prerequisites checks.log
Click next.

On the screen which says: “Specify Oracle Management Service Location”
point it to the server where OMS is running on default port of 4889

Agent registeration password is whatever you choose.
